Skin Health
With the arrival of a brand new year, now is the perfect time to review your skin health. As we’re sure you already know, many skin conditions such as Dryness, Eczema, Rosacea, Psoriasis, and Acne, may be coming from the inside.
We believe in skin nutrition from the inside out and know that food can make an incredible difference to the health of your skin. In fact, our in-house Naturopath is so passionate about skin health, she has written a 6-week Skin Programme specifically designed to improve and heal skin conditions.
Incorporating skin-friendly nutrients such as Zinc, Betacarotene, and Omega-3, our Skin Programme recipes are not only nutritious for your skin, but your overall health also. In this month’s blog, we’re going to share with you our 3 favourite skin-loving nutrients and why these are included in our programme.
Zinc
Do you know that Zinc is responsible for over 300 enzyme systems in the gut and that this mineral is largely deficient in our soils here in NZ? Do you also know that Zinc is excellent for skin health? We do! Which is why we have included plenty of recipes containing delicious pumpkin seeds as these crunchy gems contain high levels of zinc – perfect for boosting your skin wellbeing.
Recipes showcasing Zinc from our Skin Programme: Tomato Avocado Salad, Spinach Salad with Sweet Tahini Dressing, Crunchy Lemon Coleslaw
Betacarotene
This wonder nutrient is well known for being found in red and orange vegetables – such as your carrots, capsicum and pumpkin. Betacarotene is an interesting nutrient. It is a natural precurser to Vitamin A, which the body will convert to as much Vitamin A as it requires at the time – isn’t that clever? Vitamin A is fantastic for skin health and also for immunity.
Recipes showcasing Betacarotene from our Skin Programme: Betacarotene Soup, Raw Veggie Rolls with Curry Dipping Sauce, Moroccan Chicken
Omega-3
A deficiency in Omega-3 not only results in dry skin, but a reduced permeability of the cells throughout your body, making them less efficient in their role of transporting health nutrients in and damaging toxins out. A lack of Omega-3 has also been linked with increased incidence of skin conditions like eczema.
Recipes showcasing Omega-3 from our Skin Programme: Flax-coated Fish, Spiced Cocoa-Nuts, Coconut Yoghurt Fruit Bowl
Easy meals, focused on nutrients to heal your skin, with one-to-one appointments with one of our trained facilitators to support your progress, and the backup of our qualified Naturopaths if you need further help.
